Lee Elderton and Nathan Hubbard have been working as a duo for over five years. Originally this duo was simply an outreach of our explorations into the extended jazz tradition, and more recently the music has taken a more open-minded view to improvising. This new view combines each artists solo language and vocabulary and their combined work in smaller groups (Return to One, Spectrum Quartet) and larger groups (Skeleton Key Orchestra) as a launching point for new possibilities. In many ways it is an attempt to remove ourselves from our instruments traditional roles and find new ones in the moment.
That being said, the focus is on free improvisation and extended forms. As a duo, we have released a debut CD and continue to perform in traditional performance spaces as well as more abstract settings.
